Drilling starch is kind of a potato-based polymer using drilling fluid. We can call this material as an additive mainly using prevent seepage of soil filters by adjust viscosity of mud. It  also reduces the fluid loss and have resistance against bacterial degradation. It is  for controlling the viscosity of mud uses in LV and HV depended on requirement. It is used in both fresh and salt water and so effective for bacterial fermentation.

This product pumped into the hole on the purpose of clean and cool during production. The most important properties of this viscosifier material is the water and fluid holding these liquid. It is generally using as cold water soluble. Wet reactions carried out in suspensions are easy to control and the resulting precisely engineered starches are of high, uniform quality with wider applications. Potato starch keeps fluids better than other starches because of having the large size of its molecules Their polymer nature tends to break down rapidly by shear, heat and microbial attack. Protection against the physical exposure – shear and heat – is obtained by cross-linking the structure. There is 3 kind of starch named potato corn and tapioca.

Applications / Advantages:

It is extensively used in oil well to reduce the fluid loss.Effective in a wide range of make-up water, including high hardness and high salinity brines.It is used to stabilize and reduce the filter cake permeability.Because of adjusting viscosity, it is a good cooler product and also lubricates and remove rock fragments from the production zone.It provides well bore stability through filtration control.
