Test report of Albanian gilsonite to use in ink industry

ALBANIA Gilsonite 200 MESH Test ResultTest 1Blending same materials as existing formulation other than GilsoniteAbout other materials, vegetable oil is mainly used, and organic solvent is not used.Result 1Viscosity:56.8dPa・s(25℃,E type) Existing formulation :around 200dPa・s・When viscosity being measured, there was many grain and viscosity is unstable・Viscosity is lower than American Gilsonite. To control viscosity, it needs more ALBANIA ingredients.・About filtration, it was done by same precision as mass production. In initial few seconds, it was able to be filtrated. But grained residue closed the filtration net and it stopped soon.・In varnish remained in the flask, there was much muddy sediment, and it was thought that the residue was precipitating.Test 2Replacing part of [...]

Gilsonite support to prevent lost circulation

What is lost circulation? In the drilling of oil Wells, gas Wells, and the like, the process of pumping a drilling fluid through the well hole to and from the bottom is referred to as circulation. The maintenance of circulation of the drilling fluid is essential to successful drilling by the rotary method. The drilling fluid or mud is supplied at the surface of the well in large earthern pits or metal tanks and is pumped from these into the bore hole through the drill pipe and the drill bit to the bottom of the hole. 'The mud returns to the surface between the drill pipe and the bore hole wall, bringing with it the drill cuttings. The circulation of the mud serves not only to carry the cuttings to the surface but also to cool and lubricate the drill bit, thus making possible the further effective [...]

Gilsonite-asphalt emulsion composition

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONA number of the compositions are effective for paving surfaces and others for producing coatings, insulation board materials, etc. As useful as these materials are, skid resistance and the ability of the composition to resist deterioration over long periods of use, especially when exposed to alternating periods of extreme weather conditions, leave something to be desired. It is to still further improved gilsonite-asphalt emulsion compositions having superior paving characteristics as well as a number of other uses that the compositions of the present invention are directed.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe gilsonite-asphalt emulsion compositions of the present invention comprise a base stock consisting of a blend of gilsonite, asphalt, and a latex or rubber. Preferably the [...]

Building of roads ,blown agent, rubberise of material by Gilsonite

Claims. (Cl. 260-285) This invention relates to improvements in comminuted particles of thermoplastic compositions containing rubber for incorporation in the bituminousbinders usedin .building roads.melting bitumens),In conventional road building practice, .hot bituminous i binder (asphalt or road tar) is mixedwith'the aggregate at a pug mill and the mix is then transportedto the paving either alone or with up to 0.5%site, or the dry aggregate is first laid on the road and the hot binder is then sprayed on the aggregate. In theseof 250 F. tooperations the binder is at a temperature 400 F. (generally 250 F. to 350 F.). The asphalt binders used are graded according to penetration values l at 77 F. as measured by the standard method' of test for penetration of bituminous materials (A. S. T. M;'D5 52), the [...]

Gilsonite Application Summary: Paints, Coatings & Stains

This page summarizes Gilsonite's applications in the bituminous paint, coatings and wood stain industries. It contains an outline which highlights Gilsonite's advantages in these markets, plus sample formulations, mixing instructions, and product performance data, etc.In the paint applications, Gilsonite is usually used in combination with bitumen (asphalt). In most cases, if Gilsonite is used alone, the final paint will be very hard and brittle after drying. If normal straight-run bitumen is used alone, the finished paint is too soft and tacky . Therefore, a combination of Gilsonite and bitumen is used to achieve the desired hardness (penetration) and drying time of the finished paint. In addition to imparting hardness to the paint, Gilsonite is also increasing the paint's: (1) adhesion; (2) gloss; (3) chemical [...]

Gilsonite help Torque and Drag Reduction Lubrication

Tests performed in the O-G-S Downhole Simulation Cell (DSC) using cores of various age and hardness in a Bore-Plate®- treated mud system indicate that Bore-Plate(a patented blend of specially-treated Gilsonite grades and other additives) can reduce the effects of drilling fluid filtrate invasion. In water based mud systems, filtrate invasion can destabilize the shales and cause many problems such as sloughing shale, borehole enlargement, stuck pipe, and excess bridging during trips. Bore-Plate, used as a pretreatment suggested at 5.0-6.0 pounds per barrel (ppb) in any water-based mud system can reduce or eliminate these problems. The following three case histories illustrate the use of Bore-Plate not only as a shale stabilizer but also as a lubricant to reduce torque and drag .In the South Pass area, offshore Louisiana, [...]

Sloughing Shales

Sloughing shales or heaving shales were encountered in ATDM Gilsonite Co. operations in the Hackberry Field, La. during the late 1960's. . Numerous fishing jobs because of sloughing shales plagued drilling operations, and the costs of reaming tight holes and weighting up the drilling fluids raised drilling costs substantially. One of the most common solutions to the problem was the use of relatively high mud weights, but this resulted in slow penetration rates, high mud costs, and high total well costs while drilling the normally pressured shale formations. The Hackberry field is located in southwestern Louisiana on one of the many piercement salt domes present in the Gulf coast area.Wells included in this study are in the 9,500 to 12,500 ft range. The section is characterized by a long sand-shale sequence of recent to [...]
